My usually reliable 97 just pulled a really dumb stunt.
I was driving in the rain with the wipers going, while turning a corner I switched on the headlights. Disco died immediately. Never fired up again.
After this it only intermittently engaged the starter despite great connection to the starter and battery. When it did rotate the engine it acted like there was no compression (kind of like a blown timing chain) but it turns out the cylinders are awash with gasoline.
The dash lights flicker very quickly when the key is in either the run or start position and the injectors and spark plugs are firing as if the engine was pulling 2500 RPM. Have checked the CAS and it is within normal limits.
I am flat out of ideas to check. Any assistance would be appreciated.

sorry for the delay... most don't use this site anymore... go to landroverforum.org anyway... sounds like water in the ECU or corrosion in the connections... passenger side engine bay along the fender, pull the ECU with the battery disconnected and check for corrosion.

Thanks Joey. landroverforum.org does not seem to work. I have a '96 donor that works fine. Is there some way to transplant the ecm from the 96 into the 97 without reflashing the ecm? I heard it is possible to transplant the ecm and the AS10 alarm and not have to reflash.

The only way to take an ECM from one rover to another is with Rovacom or similar land rover specific computer.
